Beginnings of World War II in Europe

Musician, Composer, and film maker, Hanns Eisler, appears before Subcommittee of House Un-American Activities Committee
Subcommittee of House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC) holds hearing in Los Angeles, California, United States. Johannes (Hanns) Eisler, musician, composer and film maker, is being questioned. He is questioned about his associations with the Communist Party and the Soviet Union. The witness spells his full name for the Committee, and states that he was born July 5, 1898, in Leipsig, Germany. He states his occupation, as composer and that he studied in Vienna and was a student of Arnold Schonberg. In response to questions, he recalls visiting the Soviet Union several times in the early 1930s, for film making and musical publishing. He denies ever receiving any monies from the Soviet Government.

Hitler lands at Tempelhof aerodrome and is greeted by enthusiastic crowds in Berlin
Adolf Hitler's triumphant return to Berlin after his visit to Vienna, in March 1938. A Junkers Ju-52 trimotor aircraft is parked on the ramp at Tempelhof Airport (Platz d. Luftbrücke 5, 12101 Berlin, Germany) Berlin. Another is seen landing (carrying Hitler). Nazi flags fly over passenger area crowded with spectators. Cars are parked along the ramp and large white letters spelling "Berlin," visible from the air, are displayed on the ground. Formations of people are seen in various areas of the airport. A closeup of mostly young people swaying back and forth, having fun. A motorcade of cars makes its way through the formations of spectators. Adolf Hitler is standing in the lead car, giving the Nazi salute as spectators cheer him. His car stops, and Hitler steps out to be joined by Hermann Goering and a helmeted army officer carrying a sword. Views of the dense crowds lining both sides of the pathway. Scene shifts to Hitler, Goering, and the Army officer, walking past an honor guard presenting arms in salute. The army officer salutes with his sword and takes up a position in front of the Honor Guard, while Hitler returns the salute and continues with Hermann Goering. Camera pans over the dense cheering crowds in the Wilhelmplatz (77 Wilhelmstraße, 10117 Berlin, Germany). Hitler and Goering appear on a balcony. (Note: the only sound is of crowds cheering.)
Vice President Nixon and Senator Kennedy debate in the U.S. over a summit conference between the U.S. and the Soviet Union.
The fourth presidential election debate held between Democratic nominee Senator John F. Kennedy and Republican nominee U.S. Vice President Richard Nixon in New York, United States on 21st October 1960. News correspondent John Edwards ask Vice President Nixon about the conditions to be met before meeting Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev at Vienna Summit of 1961. Nixon replies that an agenda should be prepared which should delineate those issues on which there is a possibility of some agreement or negotiation. He says that U.S. President should not go to the conference unless they have such an agenda, unless they have some reasonable assurance from Khrushchev that he intends seriously to negotiate on those points. News correspondent Quincy Howe asks Senator Kennedy to comment on the topic. Senator Kennedy says that the U.S. should not go to the summit until there is some reason to believe that a meeting of minds can be obtained on either Berlin, outer space or general disarmament including nuclear testing. He mentions the failure of the conference on May 15th 1960 in Paris, France. He further says it is important that they maintain their determination, that they indicate that they're building their strength, that they are determined to protect their position and that they are determined to protect their commitment.
Austrian cavalry invades Serbia during World War 1
Austro-Hungarian forces invade Serbia during World War 1. Hands ripping a newspaper apart.
