An interviewer asks Richard Nixon that how he got into becoming a member of U.S. House of Representatives in 1947. Nixon replies that soon after World War II ended some Whittier Republicans approached him about running for a seat in the United States House of Representatives and he accepted. A picture of Nixon during his campaign in 1946. He says America is a great country because American people are competitive and it does not mean competition in the destructive sense. He considers America a great country in terms of competitive people and says that competitive spirit is a great driving force in any nation. And he says it is the reason why politics appeals to him.

Eisenhower, who is now dressed in civilian clothes. (Eisenhower is the President of Columbia University, in New York, at this time. He is here to meet with U.S. Secretary of War, James Vincent Forrestal.) Closeup of Eisenhower as he walks toward and up the Pentagon steps, accosted by photographers along the way. He pauses as he goes up the steps to allow the picture taking. At the top of the steps, he removes his overcoat. More closeups as he reaches the top step and enters the building. Scene shifts to closeup of photographers, including an Army one, taking pictures. An interview of United States Air Force Lieutenant General Ira Eaker conducted by Dr. Maurer in the United States. Dr Maurer and General Eaker seated at a desk. Dr Maurer talks about the work and the contribution of General Eaker in the U.S. Air Force. He says that General Eaker was the Commander of the 8th Air Force. In 1944, he became the Commander in Chief of the Mediterranean Allied Air Force. Then from 1945 until his retirement in 1947, he was the deputy commander of the Army Air Forces and chief of the Air Staff. General Eaker talks about his experiences. He talks about the first airplane flight he saw. He further speaks that he was sent to a training camp in 1917. A man came in the camp looking for some fliers. He was already selected for an examination of regular army. He says that in November 1917, he was on a parade grounds. An airplane was in flight overhead. The aircraft landed and he looked at the engine of the aircraft.

The U.S. Marine Corps War Memorial original statue during its unveiling ceremony at the Marine Corps base in Quantico, Virginia on November 10, 1951 (This is after the statue had been moved from its original Constitution Avenue location in Washington DC in 1947, and subsequently renovated under sculptor de Weldon's supervision while it was in Quantico.). A sign on the memorial reads "Uncommon valor was a common virtue, 1945." Next scenes show sculptor Felix de Weldon as he works to build the larger Marine Corps War Memorial in Arlington, Virginia, which was dedicated in November 1954. Felix de Weldon measuring a model of the flag raising on Iwo Jima made by him. de Weldon and others on his team work to carve the large war memorial in plaster before it is cast in bronze. Views of the sculpted faces of the six Marines who raised the flag on Iwo Jima: Faces of John Bradley, Rene Gagnon, Ira Hayes, Franklin Sousley, Harlon Block and Michael Strank. Brief glimpse of the original flag raising scene on Mount Suribachi in February 1945. Next scene, circa 1954 or 1955, shows the completed Marine Corps War Memorial in bronze, in Arlington Virginia, with Washington Monument and Lincoln Memorial landmarks of Washington DC in the background. A woman named Ann Collins is seen in a vacant lot, where she and others of the community work to clean it up so it can be made into a playground. They pick up trash and deposit it in a wheelbarrow that Ms Collins pushes to a 1947 Dodge pickup truck, parked nearby, where it is unloaded. Views of others working with rakes and shovels to prepare the ground. Some trash falls on Ms. Collins as she hands a bushel basket full to a man standing in the back of the open truck. She smiles and climbs into the cab of the truck, which has "John C. Hunter, Monroe, N.Y. Dial 2371" painted on its door. The truck drives away, with two young men steadying boxes of trash in the back. The truck proceeds along a street in the town, past parked cars of the period, such as a 1949 Pontiac sedan. Ms Collins waves from the truck cab as it drives past a street sign reading "No Littering." They pass people lined up outside a polling place, where election voting is taking place. Scene changes to the interior of a rummage shop run by local women to help the poor. Other women are seen working inside a greenhouse associated with a garden club. Next, a woman is seen handing publications to two girl scouts in uniform. A church choir, with many women, sings during a service. Closeups of the choir as they sing the hymn, "Holy, Holy, Holy" by John B. Dykes. Scene shifts to a physician and nurse taking blood from a volunteer blood donor. Closeup of the blood being collected in a glass flask. Next, citizens are seen inside the polling place where volunteers register them to vote. A uniformed police officer stands nearby as the voters make their way to voting booths. Women enter curtained voting booth and vote.
